FAQ

At Vare, we believe architectural hardware should perform as flawlessly as it looks. Below are answers to common questions regarding the specification, installation, and performance of our solid steel registers and mounts.

Product & Performance

What is the difference between the Luxe, and Luxe Advance series?

  • Luxe: Precision-crafted solid steel with a single airflow channel for a hyper-minimalist aesthetic.
  • Luxe Advance : Features a dual-channel design, delivering significantly higher CFM (cubic feet per minute) airflow while maintaining a seamless footprint.

Are Vare vents made of plastic or steel?

Unlike standard builder-grade or plastic alternatives on the market, every Vare register and exhaust mount is forged exclusively from solid, powder-coated steel. This ensures uncompromising structural integrity, a heavier feel, and a flawless aesthetic that will not warp or crack under foot traffic.

Can I use Vare registers as both supply and return vents?

Yes. Our flush floor vents can be utilized for both supply (delivering conditioned air into the room) and return (drawing air back into the HVAC system). For supply applications where you need to regulate temperature, we highly recommend models featuring our integrated dampers.

Do your vents restrict HVAC airflow?

Vare vents are engineered to balance architectural minimalism with high HVAC performance. If maximizing air velocity is critical for your specific system or a large space, our Luxe+ and Luxe Advance double-channel models are specifically designed to increase the net free area and deliver superior airflow compared to single-channel flush vents.

Measuring & Sizing

How do I know what size vent to order?

The golden rule of architectural vents: always measure the raw duct opening in your floor or wall, not your old vent cover.

  • Remove your existing register.
  • Measure the exact length and width of the hole in the floor/wall.
  • If your duct opening measures exactly 4" x 10", you will order a 4x10 Vare vent. Do not round up or down.

Do you manufacture custom sizes?

We offer a comprehensive range of standard North American HVAC sizes. At this time, we do not manufacture custom dimensions or bespoke configurations.

Installation & Compatibility

What is the difference between a "Flush" vent and a standard drop-in vent?

Standard drop-in registers sit on top of your finished floor, creating a visible, raised lip. Vare Flush Floor Registers are installed at the sub-floor level before your surface material is laid. This allows your flooring material to be set directly into our insert tray, creating a completely seamless, zero-clearance finish that sits perfectly level with your floor.

Can I install a flush floor vent after my floors are already finished?

No. Because our flush system integrates directly into the sub-floor, it must be mounted prior to or during the flooring installation phase.

What flooring materials are compatible with the insert tray?

Our flush floor vents include leveling screws to help adjust the vent body to the finished floor height. Compatible flooring options include luxury vinyl plank (LVP), engineered hardwood, solid hardwood, laminate, and tile. Before installation, check the model-specific dimension sheet and dry-fit the flooring insert to confirm tray fit and adjustment clearance.

How do I access the duct or clean the vent once installed?

The center insert tray is securely held in place to prevent rattling but can be easily lifted out at any time. This allows for effortless duct cleaning, damper adjustment, or retrieving small items dropped by children or pets.

Are the bathroom exhaust fan mounts paintable?

Yes. Our zero-clearance exhaust fan mount covers arrive with a premium powder-coated finish that can be left as-is, or primed and painted to perfectly match your ceiling color.
