Start with your measured duct opening, then check the dimensions and installation requirements of the vent you want. The size printed on a vent listing is only one part of finding the right fit.
Match the opening, not the old cover
Remove a loose existing register if safe, then measure the inside width and length of the exposed duct opening. The outside dimensions of the old cover can be larger than the duct and are not a reliable way to choose a replacement.
What does 4" × 10" mean?
A nominal 4" × 10" floor vent generally refers to the intended duct-opening size. It does not mean the outside frame measures exactly 4" × 10". Before ordering, compare the actual opening measurements with the product's dimension sheet and installation requirements.
Check three kinds of dimensions
Duct opening: the opening the vent is intended to serve.
Frame and installation footprint: the space required for the assembly, including clearance from walls, trim and adjacent flooring.
Flooring insert and finished height: the model-specific insert requirements and how the assembly aligns with your finished floor.
Choosing between floor vent models
VARE's Luxe and Luxe Advance floor vents have been offered in a nominal 4" × 10" size. Confirm the selected product's current specifications before ordering. Do not assume that two models with the same nominal size have identical frame dimensions, installation requirements or airflow characteristics.
What if my opening is a different size?
Do not force a vent into place or assume a nearby nominal size will work. Record the exact measurements and take a photo. Contact VARE to confirm whether a suitable option is available. Any change to the duct opening or surrounding floor should be assessed by an appropriate installer.
Physical fit is not the same as airflow sizing
A vent that fits the opening is not automatically the right choice for the room's heating and cooling requirements. For changes to vent size, airflow or room performance, ask an HVAC professional to assess the system rather than choosing by room size alone.
Your pre-order checklist
- Actual opening width and length recorded.
- Product dimension sheet checked.
- Frame clearance and flooring compatibility confirmed.
- Installation timing reviewed with your flooring installer.
- HVAC suitability checked if you are changing the existing setup.
